Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia 9th February, 2024_ In a significant stride towards nurturing innovation and technological advancement, University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Tijarah Holding Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote collaboration and accelerate the adoption of Blockchain technology to University Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

The ceremonial signing took place at Bilik Mesyuarat Lembaga Eksekutif, Aras 6, Block Selatan, Bangunan Canselori, attended by respected individuals including Professor Datuk Dr. Kassim Hj Mansor, Vice Chancellor of UMS; Associate Prof. Dr. Raman bin Noordin, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student & Alumni Affairs) of UMS; En. Badrul Hisham bin Ismail, Bursar of UMS; Luqman Ridha Anwar, Registrar of UMS; Dr Mohammad Azmi bin Abdullah, Head of Islamic Finance Program and Miss Shahira Sundu, Senior Business Development.


Associate Prof. Dr. Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal, Dean of Labuan Faculty of International Finance (FKAL), highlighted the occasion as an invaluable opportunity for University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to express gratitude and delve into deeper collaboration avenues within the dynamic landscape of financial, education advancement by using block chain technology.


Prof Datuk Dr. Kassim Hj Mansor underscored the significance of the MoU, portraying it not merely as a formal agreement but as the inception of a strategic alliance aimed at harnessing the latest fintech and blockchain advancements to fuel innovation and economic growth specifically in Sabah. United by a common vision of leveraging technology for societal welfare, UMS and Tijarah Holding Ltd are poised to pioneer significant advancements in the fintech ecosystem.


During the signing, John Pellegrini addressed the potential impact of the alliance by enhancing the skill level in education through providing industry feedback and practical exposure, thereby representing a synergistic partnership between public universities and the private sector. This collaboration elevates the standard of education and academic to a new level. Furthermore, it encompasses technological advancements, providing all participants with practical hands-on experience.


The MoU was signed during a ceremony held at the Chancellor's Building, UMS.
